Townsend-Smith Foundation (TSF) is seeking Expressions of Interest from Architect-led consultant teams to design a new Hospice for North Halton.
Vision for the Project:
Our vision for this hospice is based on the belief that every individual should have a dignified and caring end of life journey.
We place the residents we care for, and their families, at the centre of our work, supported by our donors, staff and volunteers; and in doing so we respect all values, beliefs, choices, experiences, and diversity. “The Circle of Life” will be the theme for the building and gardens.
Project Description:
The hospice will provide 24 hour palliative care for individuals living with a life-limiting illness, and will provide support services for that individual’s loved ones.
The hospice will be a calm, peaceful and homelike place. It will offer specialized individual care, recognizing that residents are on their final journey, and need comfort and kindness.
The building programme is estimated to be around 20,000 sq.ft. gross floor area, including the following spaces:
- 10 private rooms with the ability to accommodate overnight guests
- Family room / visiting room
- Serene outdoor areas
- Kitchen and dining facilities Specialized shower and bathing facilities
- Children’s play area
The project will be funded by community donations, pledges and fundraising; and supplemented by funding from Government of Ontario (Ministry of Health). Facility design is required to meet the Hospice Capital Program Design Standards.
We seek a Design Team who will interpret the functional requirements into a design that reflects our vision for the project.
A building committee will manage the selection process. The designated representative for the selection process is Deborah Bernardino.
